A Little History of Shamrock Trails Ranch

Shamrock Trails Clover

The ranch this web site describes has been a long time in coming. While we're working hard on making it home for our animals and ourselves, we're not trying to hurry too fast to get it put together.

Why pick a name like that? This place spends about half the year looking more lush and green than most Southern California locations, and Steve wanted a name that reflected his Irish ancestry. We have been cutting trails from our main pasture areas into and around the canyon so that we can access the different parts of the parcel.

The Ranch Itself

The main component of the ranch existed years before we ever bought it -- ancient Engelmann Oak trees, a canyon with spring-fed streams, and grassy meadows populated by thousands of volcanic rocks. The planned ranch facilities include:

  •  New Life Mastery Programs - One Day Seminars
  •  K-14 and crisis counseling, and special tutoring services
  •  McStyles Software development projects and consulting services
  •  Siberian Husky conformation showing and breeding of AKC registered puppies

Emryld Life

Shamrock Trails Ranch is embarking on a software development project. Emryld Life will assist with the chore of tracking health information for people with diabetes and heart disease. Click here to read more about this new software package, which is expected to be available in 2008.

An Owner/Developer's Tale

We are Steve and Kristyne McDaniel, and this our new home saga. We've taken on the development of 20 acres of raw land in a beautiful oak woodland in the Tenaja area of the Santa Rosa Plateau, along with many of the associated problems that arise from doing this kind of job. This whole adventure started when we realized how short life was, and that there were things we wanted to be sure we did while we could.

Steve's spinal injury shortened his teaching career, and his open heart surgery had us wondering whether we'd ever be able to put together a world like the one that we are working towards in this oak woodland. But what finally opened our eyes and made us take the plunge was his bout with flesh eating bacteria. There are still periodic scares with pneumonia and another heart attack, but his spirits are good and we continue to hope for the best.

Please feel free to come along and visit this site. When we are finally able to break ground on the house construction, we expect to have lots of photos to document the process. In fact, we hope to install a web cam on the construction site later on just for fun.

All family, friends, and interested parties are welcome to spy on our project as we go along. We'd like to get an email from you if you're going to be visiting... but it isn't required unless you'd like to request access to the private pages.

About the Owners

Steve is a retired teacher and counselor. His outspoken unconventionality and his sunny persistence inspire us to reach up and out. He's recovering now from his second heart attack and is back to working every day with the dogs, working part time with the Caterpillar™ tractor, and doing crisis counseling whenever the need arises. Kristyne works as an energy analyst, software developer, and internet marketer.
